A Matter of Balance at the Maplewood YMCA

Designed to assist older adults to reduce their fear of falling, increase their confidence levels, and increase physical activity. Promotes balance, strengthening, flexibility, range of motion, and problem-solving. Workshop is a combination of gentle group exercise and group discussion. AARP Smart Driver Course (2 sessions)

Take the AARP Smart Driver classroom course and you could save 10% on your car insurance!*
Attendance at both sessions is required. Second session is Tuesday, August 26th from 10 am - 1 pm.

  • Refresh your driving skills and knowledge of the rules of the road

  • Learn techniques for handling left turns, right-of-way, and roundabouts

  • Discover proven driving methods to help keep you and your loved ones safe on the road.

Please bring your NYS Driver’s License, a pen, and if you are a current AARP member, bring your AARP membership card/number. Class starts promptly at 10 am. NOTE: Once the class starts, later comers cannot be admitted.

COST: AARP members $25, Non-members $30
Payment is required by check, made payable to AARP. Please bring payment with you on the day of the class.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers is a 6-week educational program that focuses on the needs of family caregivers of individuals with chronic conditions. Family caregivers develop a variety of self-care tools to:
• Reduce personal stress
• Change negative self-talk
• Communicate their needs to family members and healthcare providers
• Communicate more effectively in challenging situations
• Deal with difficult feelings
• Make tough caregiving decisions
Class participants also receive a copy of The Caregiver Helpbook, developed specifically for the class. This is a free class for family caregivers of someone with a chronic illness and/or dementia.

This class series will meet online via Zoom Fridays May 23, 30, and June 6, 13, 20, 27 from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers is a 6-week educational program that focuses on the needs of family caregivers of individuals with chronic conditions. Family caregivers develop a variety of self-care tools to:
• Reduce personal stress
• Change negative self-talk
• Communicate their needs to family members and healthcare providers
• Communicate more effectively in challenging situations
• Deal with difficult feelings
• Make tough caregiving decisions
Class participants also receive a copy of The Caregiver Helpbook, developed specifically for the class. This is a free class for family caregivers of someone with a chronic illness and/or dementia.
