The Upstate Elder Abuse Center at Lifespan is a provider of education and training in New York State upon request.

To increase recognition and reporting of elder mistreatment, neglect and financial exploitation, Lifespan trains professionals and those who work with or have frequent contact with older adults to recognize the signs and symptoms of abuse and mistreatment, and to work collaboratively to facilitate intervention and prevention.

Lifespan staff also provide informational presentations for organizations, community groups, caregivers, and others to raise public awareness of elder mistreatment, its signs and symptoms, and knowledge of where to turn when there is suspected abuse. We also provide education about scams/ID theft.

Our knowledgeable professionals will work with you to create a personalized training or presentation catered to your audience’s needs. Popular topics include, but are certainly not limited to:

  1. Elder Abuse 101. Learn about the basics and current trends.

  2. Scams 101. Learn about common scams and the ever-evolving tactics used by scammers to take your and your loved ones’ money.

  3. Responding to Elder Abuse. Trainers will explore easy-to-integrate strategies to use with older adults who have disclosed abuse or are believed to be experiencing abuse.

  4. Focus on the Types of Abuse. Whether you want to learn more about just one type of abuse, or about all 5 types of abuse, our trainers are there to walk you through the red flags and warning signs.

  5. Scam Games! Ask us about the fun and innovative ways our trainers are reinforcing tips and tricks learned in Scams 101!

What people are saying about our training and education:

Best ever - would listen again.
I learned of a couple more resources. But I feel (re-)engerized to push harder to advocate since I feel more qualified.
Speaker is dynamic, engaging, clear, concise, and highly knowledgeable in a field about which we all need to know a lot more. Excellent presentation!
